Hey everyone,
I’m thinking about switching from my old 1060 to the 4070 Super. I want to know if my 550w PSU will be sufficient. My Seasonic GX Focus Gold is a decent unit, but the NVIDIA site says the 4070 Super requires at least 650w. I think that’s probably a bit conservative.

My setup includes an i5-9400F, 16GB RAM, a couple of hard drives, an SSD for the OS, and standard fans. I’m aiming for a smooth 1440p experience since I already have a good monitor.

Any advice would be really helpful! Thanks! 😊

No, that's the "minimum" level. You can't go below what they recommend.
Also, since your PSU isn't brand new (or even if it were), you'll likely face power problems, system crashes, etc., so you should opt for a better one to fit your new GPU.

all third-party makers I've noticed say 750w is the lowest needed. perhaps the Nvidia model uses less power for its blower fan, lacks overclocking options, etc.? what exact card is it? probably not enough to reach peak performance. watch for speed throttling or artifacts, and definitely upgrade the power supply.

Always invest in a high-quality PSU. It's the most crucial and often ignored part. If Nvidia claims 650W, ensure you get a genuine 650W unit.

For your understanding and information: Power Supply Efficiency Ratings (80 Plus) details are commonly sought. When troubleshooting, the initial inquiry usually asks about the system's specifications, such as "What is the make and model of all installed components?" A standard answer like "750w Gold PSU" provides insufficient data. forums.
