So, my wife’s old computer might be dead. It stopped working suddenly, and the motherboard light stayed on. I changed the CMOS battery and swapped RAM, but nothing worked. I checked the power supply connectors for both 24-pin and 8-pin CPU pins—they matched voltage specs. I verified the CPU socket pins on both CPU and board looked fine. I’m not sure what to do next except consider a new 4790k chip or a fresh motherboard and CPU. The board is an ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1, which was pretty new back then (with the long warranty). It had problems in 2020, so I returned it for replacement. They sent a new one, and it worked again. Any advice?

It seems the CPU might be the issue. Are the fans attempting to spin before shutting down, or do they spin up and then stop? A 4790K should likely be affordable on eBay if you're willing to replace it and test it.

Have you considered activating it without the CPU AIO module in place? I’d like to check if it runs smoothly without a cooler attached.

I also gave it a shot. I even tested a case fan to check if the AIO CPU fan connector was faulty, but it didn’t help. I purchased a certified used 4790K to confirm it’s a CPU and see if the same problem exists. What’s odd is that when I first turned it on with the new CPU, it kept power cycling. I tried switching it off and back on, but it just reset the CPU light again.

I also attempted to purchase another CPU, but the same problem occurred. It was strange because upon first powering it up, it would keep rebooting endlessly. I tried switching it off and on again, yet the CPU light stayed lit. I’m concerned it might be related to the motherboard. The fans would spin up when I connected them.

Probably the board. My Haswell system's board is flakey, I already have a replacement system built, just waiting for final parts. I ended up going with a Xeon instead of a 4790K or 4770K. Basically, I got the locked equivalent of the 4770k, an E3 1280V3. CPU's solid, GPU and motherboard are sadly not so much. D:
