Is Samsung DDR3 1600Mhz RAM suitable for overclocking?
I'm testing a new rig with DDR3 RAM and planning to overclock both the CPU and RAM. I'm curious if Samsung's DDR3 is suitable for this kind of overclocking. Also, I've noticed those letters after the RAM model names like S or E—my unit doesn't have them (if the seller is right), will that influence performance?
It's common, especially with Samsung B-Die chips. Just avoid expecting a lot from original components; using four sticks might strain the IMC and cause instability.
Samsung's 4gbit ICs weren't too bad, but 2R dimms in a 2DPC configuration might limit you.
To get a better idea of the clocks you can except to hit, refer to edyn's ddr3 overclocking guide, you can find it pinned in the overclocking discord. Also, you should be able to identify the IC from the sticker, or directly reading the revision off the die, if there's no heatsink.
