I just bought a PC all new and it has lots of fans that keep things cool. But when I set my RAM to run faster than normal (XMP), games like Valorant get laggy or stutter. That means I have to turn off the fast mode on my RAM. My computer also sends too many packets, even though I'm connected through ethernet. My internet line is fine because my brother uses the same setup and never has problems with stutters or packet loss. I tried turning things back down several times but nothing fixed it either. I checked three different ethernet cables and a different switch, but none worked. It's not the internet or the network. I don't know if the RAM or the motherboard is broken or just faulty. What should I do? OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PSU: Corsair HX 1200 1200 Watt MOBO: ROG STRIX Z790E GAMING WIFI CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X GPU: RTX 3080 RAM: G SKILL TRIDENT 32GB DDR5 7600 CL36 (running at 4800MHz) Storage: 2TB SSD with heatsink, 4TB HDD

Are you certain there isn't actual packet loss or could the game client be at fault? Try running a ping command in the background while leaving it open, then check if packets are missing. If the game is loading slowly because too many cores are busy, your ping will probably use different hardware and won't get lost. If that's still not working, I'm not sure what to say. It sounds like there is a problem with your drivers. Please uninstall that annoying game or QoS software from Asus bundles; they call it CFOSpeed but it is just extra software they try to make you buy. I don't know if this specific program causes the issue, but check if you have an Intel 226 ethernet chip. They messed up again and there is a hardware problem with this line of chips. They haven't been very clear about what it affects; they pretend it doesn't matter. The only real fix is to replace the chip, which I don't know how you can tell if your motherboard has that bad chip.

I can't keep track of this stuff if I don't see the XMP setting on my machine. Without that checkmark, everything runs smoothly with no lag or buffer issues. Is that right?

The shaky part stops, but missing bits of data stay.

Do you look for newer NIC cards on your computer board?

I got the newest laptop drivers from that site just in case that was what you meant.

You have to try testing with another tool, not just the game itself. Games sometimes lie and stop working if they get stuck while processing a video stream. When that happens, the system might think the network is slow instead of blaming the game for getting hung up. This can waste hours chasing fake problems. If your ping command actually fails, it's usually something very simple about the computer. But if the ping works fine, then the issue is probably more advanced and related to how you set up the game.
