Another advantage of these monitors is their superior image quality beyond just the refresh rate. They generally offer better screens overall. Additionally, even with simple Windows tasks, I notice smoother performance during mouse movements and window updates compared to a 60Hz display. My 75Hz screen feels noticeably smoother in Windows when the refresh rate exceeds 60, and the difference becomes more apparent at higher rates like 120Hz.
It relies on the monitor's characteristics and your priorities. Many 60Hz models offer basic functionality, which suits those who aren't concerned about advanced features like adaptive syncing or BFI for reduced motion blur.
Not really. Although I've used my LG C9 for PC gaming occasionally and believe it performs better than my Samsung Odyssey G7 in that context, my issues with TVs include:
A sizable screen consumes considerable desk space.
If I need to shift my position to view parts of the display, the size and close proximity make it uncomfortable for ergonomics.
Viewing from a distance becomes difficult for everyday computing tasks. It's acceptable if gaming is the main focus and a wireless controller is used.
TVs usually require entering "Game Mode" to avoid input lag, which might also affect image quality.
If you opt for an LCD panel, you'll likely encounter backlight bleed, which is inherent to LCD technology. You should consider an OLED display for no backlight problems. Even with multi-zone dimming TVs or monitors, halo effects can occur, though Samsung's latest Neo QLED models offer enough zones to minimize this issue.
I don’t think the Hz is the typical improvement. Higher Hz monitors usually have better pixel response times which will give a clearer image on fast moving objects. Therefore the 144Hz monitor set to 60Hz may display moving images better than the native 60Hz. Obviously this is generalised and may not apply to all comparisons. Would I say it’s worth the upgrade if that’s all you are getting, no.
