Is PCVR awful or am i cursed?
After many years of VR headsets, I ventured into this space a few months back, and it hasn’t been pleasant. I picked up an Oculus Quest 3, hoping to use it with my PC for racing simulations. My system has a 9900k and a 2080 Ultra—still decent but not cutting-edge. I expected it would be enough to decide if I truly wanted to stay in VR. So far, I wouldn’t recommend VR gaming unless you’re up for the challenge. Every “VR” title falls short. X game does support VR but lacks a proper control system. Another title, Y, offers VR but is extremely poorly optimized—you’d need a 4000-series card or newer to run it smoothly (assetto corsa competizione, anyone?). You’ll have to tweak registry settings and Oculus debug tools constantly. If you want Z game, you’ll need to edit your PC’s registry in a completely different way than the others, play only on Tuesdays, and even then it must coincide with a lunar eclipse. Then, maybe, if VR is what the universe wants, you’ll get a brief 20 minutes before bedtime after a two-hour setup. Right now, I’ve switched to iRacing, which costs a monthly fee. Just to test if I can push my headset and PC to deliver better than 360p at over 10 frames per second without lag, I’m still struggling. The game often stutters on the headset, but it works perfectly on my monitor—whether via wired or wireless link. The problem keeps coming up: constant lag during races. Even when I remove the headset and watch from my PC, it runs smoothly. This issue affects both wired and air connections. The solution? More registry tweaks that don’t actually fix it. The headset itself is so problematic it even messes with my wheel setup, causing it to drift off-center when connected via USB. I’m not a big fan of video games, but today’s frustration nearly ruined my whole session. I’m either dealing with a curse or these tech reviewers should be ashamed for pushing such poor products. Anyone know if there’s a workaround that doesn’t require hammering the registry every time? Or a fix that works without constant adjustments?
