Across numerous titles – including Fallout 4, Total War: Warhammer, Dark Souls 3, and Dragon Age: Origins – I occasionally experience sporadic frame drops. While not detrimental to the gameplay experience, it’s a noticeable issue that frustrates me.

Considering this recurring occurrence on my past three PCs, is it truly commonplace and unpreventable? Many of my acquaintances don't appear to register these minor, incidental frame dips, suggesting perhaps they are less sensitive to them.

My present system is powerful enough to handle most of these games at speeds exceeding 150 fps… however, disabling Vsync results in noticeably rough and unstable gameplay. Enabling Vsync provides a smoother experience, though it still introduces random drops of two to four frames approximately every ten to thirty seconds.

This problem doesn’t affect all titles equally; it's prevalent in many. I simply wish to ascertain whether others encounter this phenomenon. Please respond truthfully.

My specifications are as follows:
17-6700k
16 gb of RAM
GTX 1080
Samsung EVO 850 SSD

This is typical operation.
If further clarification is required: Data retrieval from storage, data loading from RAM, or the CPU being occupied with other tasks and failing to supply sufficient information for frame processing – these are among several potential causes.
Provided that it simply results in a decrease in frames per second without any freezing, you needn’t be concerned.

You’re affirming that this occurs for you as well? I’m relieved to hear it’s a common experience.

It’s important to recognize that reduced frame rates are common at lower graphical settings, even on powerful computers. If a game demands increased processing capabilities but you’re already operating at maximum performance, it may temporarily pause to acquire the necessary resources; this occurs less frequently if additional processing power is available. Furthermore, factors such as antivirus software and other running applications (like Skype) can also play a role.
