Hello there. I'm just starting to use this forum. I have a query.
I'm changing my motherboard and CPU; my current setup looks like this:
Motherboard: Asrock X370 KILLER SLI
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
CPU cooler: ID-cooling SE-214
RAM: 2x4gb Crucial Ballistix Elite 2666Mhz
GPU: Asrock RX570 8gb
PSU: Corsair RM550X
3 fans on my case, 1 SSD and 1 HDD 7200RPM, plus a DVD drive.
My concern is: Will it be safe to overclock the CPU with this configuration (especially with this PSU)?
The GPU is stock, and I might replace the HDD with another SSD. Also, I'm thinking of removing the DVD drive.

https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
seems fine , but put your own OC values to be sure.

CPU and MOBO are still in the early stages
Also, I haven’t done any overclocking before, so I’ll be checking out some guides over the next weeks to make sure I do it right.
I was a bit concerned about whether my PSU’s power would be sufficient for an OC CPU to run smoothly without problems.

Power use and heat generation rise when you overclock, depending on the level of overclocking. Around 4 GHz at 1.35V works fine.

Because I dislike when my computer sounds like an airplane in warm weather, I considered a small soft OC to boost the CPU slightly without raising temperatures too much (just enough). Thanks for your support! I feel more confident about overclocking now.

Overclocking only slightly increases power needs, maybe a few percent at most. For the PSU, reliability matters more. Make sure you use a power supply that's at least 25-33% more capable than what you expect, so any changes in performance won't cause issues.

I checked an online calculator and found the total power use was about 400W. That means 30% equals 120W, so I assumed an 80 plus gold PSU would suffice. Did I make a mistake?

You were right, that should provide sufficient strength.
