Hi!
This weekend I integrated a custom watercooling loop into my build, so I decided to try some overclocking.
First, here’s what I’m using:
- Motherboard: MSI Z170M (µATX)
- CPU: Intel 6600k 3.5 GHZ → upgraded to 4.5 GHZ OC
- GPU: Asus r9 390x DCU II
- RAM: 2x8GB Hyperx Savage DDR4
- Custom waterloop from EKWB
My CPU overclock is stable; I’ve run it for hours without any issues.
The GPU appears to be holding up well after multiple benchmarks (no glitches or frame drops).
- Firestrike: 12157 score
- Valley: 3206 score
I noticed a 10% performance boost, everything remains stable, and temperatures stayed within acceptable limits (max 62°C during tests).
My only worry is whether the adjustments will affect long-term stability.
Data from MSI afterburner:
- Core Voltage: 0 → 100
- Power Limit: 0 → 50
- Core Clock: 1050 → 119MHz
- Memory Clock: 1500 → 1700MHz
This is my first GPU overclock attempt, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have a 390x, but I'd check online for overclock results to compare my setup and make sure my settings aren't too extreme. However, usually as long as heat isn't a problem and things are stable, everything should be fine.

You're unsure about the exact core voltage setting in MSI Afterburner, but you want to avoid excessive heat. Start by gradually reducing the core voltage and power limit, then perform a benchmark or stress test for 20-30 minutes each session, until you identify the optimal stable setting. This approach helps maximize output while maintaining cool operation.

Thanks for the reply! I tried adjusting the core voltage, but every time I lower it I experience some glitches during my benchmarks. Would you suggest reducing my OC, or should I just monitor my temperatures?
