Is my laptop turning off right away while using only the battery?
Hey, I tried fixing this but now I need your help. I bought a refurbished Dell XPS 15 that I started using today, and suddenly it shut down on its own while on the battery (like unplugging from an old desktop). The power bar shows something between 60% and 98%. It won't turn back on by itself, but if I plug in the charger, it starts. This isn't happening when I use the AC adapter. Before it died, the fans weren't loud at all, so I don't think it's too hot. I think the problem is with the battery or software. Two times I lost it while editing video. No idea what driver issue could cause this. My Dell power menu says the battery health is great. When I ran basic BIOS checks and Device Manager, everything looked fine. Even after resetting the BIOS to factory settings, the problem stayed. Since I've had two BSOD errors in the last two days (one that means a critical hardware or driver crash, and another for unexpected storage errors), I'm wondering if it's software-related. But there are no signs of problems with the laptop. It would be silly to keep this one because it costs me so much money on work time. Also, leaving it running constantly while unplugged feels risky; maybe that's causing more damage later? Any other ideas for me? I really want to use this laptop again and keep it.
I found more details. After checking the BIOS Diagnostics by pressing F12, there were no problems found. The battery health shows 96% and it says the manufacturing date is June 4th, 2021. I also ran a command for the battery check and got these numbers: design capacity of 96,991 mWh and full charge capacity of 94,073 mWh. It said that connected standby does not work because I don't know what that is, but it looks like the battery is fine. I noticed something though: if I just try to browse a website on this laptop, it doesn't turn off by itself. But since I am only browsing and not working, I can see this now. Two times my video editor stopped while I was trying to export a video file. I looked things up and people said it could be the CPU or memory getting too hot. But it didn't happen when I turned on AC power, so it probably isn't overheating. Now I am checking the reliability report. I don't know what most of those lines mean. When DaVinci stopped working, every time there was a problem event named BEX64 and the fault module was ntdll.dll. What can I do? Would reinstalling Windows help? What else should I try?
