Is my laptop turning off because of a hot Nvidia card?
Hi guys, I have a Dell 15 with the model number 3000 (3501). It has this computer: CPU is an Intel i5-1135G7 paired with NVIDIA graphics cards called Iris Xe. The GPU is a Nvidia MX 330 and it comes with 16 GB of RAM running at 3200mhz. There is also a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I am having trouble when my GPU gets too hot. When the temperature hits 73 degrees, it shuts down in about one minute. For now, I'm using software called "GPU Tweak" to stop the temp from going over 73 so it doesn't shut down before that point. Before I started these settings, I checked on "GPU Z" and it said my limit is set to 73 degrees. On performance cap, it shows idle right now, but this problem used to happen even when the GPU was getting hot enough (like above 80 degrees) without shutting down. Now, if things get too hot, you can see that the CPU clock speed drops or slows down because of thermal throttling. After I updated my drivers on June 3rd, 2023, all games work fine again and the core clock speed stays fixed at normal speeds. But the problem with shutting down is still there. The driver version is 535.98 and it is type DCH. This shutdown started for me first time back in May of 2022 when I was playing Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands. The temperature got too high during those games, so the computer shut down. After it cooled down a bit, it shut down again after one week. Then later, I updated my Dell BIOS from Support Assistant and also did some Windows updates. But nothing helped since then. Please help me fix this.
