Is my laptop battery really empty and refusing to charge?
I bought a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3 about a year ago. Yesterday, the battery showed up with zero percent even though it was plugged in for days. Now it won't charge at all. Here is what I tried: Checked the charger's output and it shows twenty volts. I took out and replaced the battery (I had to take the machine apart for this). I removed the AC adapter driver from my computer and restarted, then updated Windows 11. I left the computer off while charging overnight. None of those steps worked. Is this a dead battery that needs to be sent back under warranty? That scares me because it involves shipping it away for months or is it just a software problem? What else can I try? Thanks in advance.
Grab your Lenovo serial number from the bottom and go to their support page. It will show a special link just for your laptop. Make sure to check if there are any BIOS updates waiting. Take it apart to replace the battery, or was that the old one? Maybe you should look at other parts of the motherboard too to see if it looks burnt or damaged. Try putting the charger in while the computer is turned off.
Thanks for getting back to me so we can fix this thread because now the problem is solved: it was a dead battery. I talked to Lenovo and they had a tech with remote access check the machine and run some tests. They said it was the mainboard, so they sent another tech to replace it under warranty. But then the issue kept happening. I ordered a new replacement battery that wasn't covered by warranty, and now everything works fine. Just shows you how often big companies make mistakes (even though it might have been the motherboard plus the battery, but unlikely).
