Is my HP Elitebook 9480 refusing to start up when it should be using an SSD?
I bought a used HP Elitebook Folio 9480m... I have the BIOS password set. 1. I put a new SSD into my other laptop with Windows 10 that runs fine there. The old hard drive was taken off before. 2. The Folio sees this SSD in the BIOS, but it won't start up from it. Usually, this shows up as a media failure or cable error. 3. I looked inside and didn't find any cables to connect. 4. I unplugged and replugged the battery for two days with no luck. 5. I checked every BIOS setting and swapped the boot order so the SSD comes first instead of the HD - that also failed. It seemed useless, but I wanted to try something anyway. Many people on forums have this exact issue with this model, but nobody seems to know how to fix it without resetting settings. Any help would be great since my job is field tech and I need a working laptop STAT note: The SSD works fine in my other laptop when I move it back over here. I've never had this many problems on any computer before.
just use the other computer, but be careful if it's the exact same type as the current one. try installing a new operating system on it instead.
