I recently purchased a used i7-2600 (NO K). I understand the K version can be overclocked, but I looked into methods to overclock an i7-2600 without K, so how can I confirm if my CPU is overclocked even though it's not K?

The CPU can only be overclocked when the motherboard has configured an overclock setting. For non-K CPUs, you need to raise the base clock of the system, which also affects other components and may lead to instability if not handled properly. With Intel, a Z-series board is usually required for successful overclocking.

The mainboard manages the configurations for overclocking, not the chip directly. If the chip was overclocked before, it won't be transferred to your machine at this time.

So there is NO WAY that the previous owner overclocked it in some way possible?

Did the prior owner utilize identical CPU and motherboard components?

There is absolutely no chance the prior owner adjusted it in any meaningful way? He might have tried the approach Volkgren talked about, but it would remain completely unknown.
