I own a Windows gaming setup and a Linux daily machine. I just got an iPhone and have a spare ThinkPad T440P. I’m considering turning it into a hackintosh to run iMessage and keep my phone out of the living room so I’m focused. I might also remove the battery to make it harder to interact with. It feels a bit more involved than installing Arch last time. I’m wondering if it’s worth experimenting just to see what works.

Imessage usually fails on a hackintosh. You can't take the battery off an iPhone, can you? Hackintosh is an exciting project but also quite challenging. Plus, it's getting tougher because Apple is moving more toward full control.

Hackintosh offers an exciting challenge, though iMessage often fails to function. Setting it up on laptops can also be tricky.

I wouldn't spend the trouble just for iMessage.

It's a creative idea to repurpose a laptop. I'm focusing on taking the battery out of the laptop and using it to handle short messages while streaming films, avoiding the long wait times my phone experiences.

Alternatively, silence the device and store it away. You're essentially solving a problem without identifying one first :p.

Seems reasonable. Perhaps I’ll acquire another wireless charger for the room and place it there each time I watch a movie.

The disk utility refuses to format my drive, ignoring a guide that doesn't seem to work on my Linux system and missing files it says are present. I might need an older version of OS X or a more current manual. It seems simpler when you're familiar with the process, but getting the installer to format my drive properly is quite challenging. Perhaps I'll use a Linux live CD for partitioning, but if it fails, copying the necessary files might be difficult. I'm really frustrated about this situation with a laptop I barely use. It would be better to sell it and save the money.
