Is it typical to need only a slight lift of the GPU for the support bracket to align?
Hey, the ROG Astral 5080 is working perfectly with everything set up. The Asus support bracket was too tall initially, so I removed the extender and used the base, but I still need to lift the GPU a bit to fit. Is this typical? Does it just fix the sagging or could it cause long-term stress on the GPU?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Are you checking that GPU support bracket is positioned on the left of the GPU near the PCIe expansion slots to confirm the height remains consistent on the right side? If the height varies, it may indicate excessive pressure on the motherboard's PCIe slot.
If the slight tilt on the right side of your video aligns with the GPU support levels matching the left side, you're safe to lift the GPU.
Any height difference means stress is being placed on the slot (and possibly the card).
Use a steel edge ruler to verify levelness.
It seems you're aiming to avoid applying excessive pressure on the card, since stress tends to concentrate at the weakest areas such as solder points. If the surface is flat as described, then you're introducing extra resistance during the downward bend due to weight, which is acceptable.
It seems the purpose of a support bracket is clearly shown in the video by lifting the slightly sagging GPU to accommodate it. It looks fine this way. Alternatively, you could place the PC on its back so the motherboard is flat, preventing gravity from causing sagging and making it easier to fit the bracket.
