I was thinking about installing a new PSU in just a few days and wondered if I’d end up having to swap out all the connected cables. There were warnings about potential issues like system damage due to non-standardized pins. I want to keep things simple and avoid breaking anything.

I upgraded from a Corsair CX-M series to an RM-e and found this guide: https://pc-mods.com/blogs/psu-pinout-repository
It mentioned two scenarios based on the model’s manufacturing year, which I’m not sure how to figure out. If the new unit is newer, it likely uses type 4 cables instead of the older type 3.

For the motherboard cable, I’ll need to replace it since the CX-M is already built into the case. The GPU wires differ slightly, but the voltages are the same—replacing them should be straightforward. The CPU and SATA connections look identical in terms of voltage and wiring, so they probably don’t need changing.

In short, I’m guessing the best approach is to replace everything.

The existing cables work since the pin configuration remains identical. The main variation lies in the 24-pin version.
