Hi everyone. I recently upgraded my 8-year-old PC to an i7 8700K for music production and image editing. It's also a general-purpose machine, but it's still a K-core so I'd like to make the most of that. With that in mind... Who can suggest a stable overclock setting you could leave set automatically? Stability, slight performance boost, and long-term health are my priorities. I’m not sure if this impacts the CPU overclock option, but I enabled XMP since the default was 2133MHz and my 32GB Ripjaws were rated for 3200MHz. Given the parts available locally, I’m pretty sure this build leans more toward performance than balance. Here’s what I have so far: Motherboard – Gigabyte Z370 M, PSU – Dark Power Pro 1200W GPU – Zotac GTX 770 with dual monitors (not gaming-focused, but maybe a test game later... DCS), Storage – 1TB Samsung 360 EVO Cooler – Corsair H80i v2. Thanks! (Sorry for the beginner’s question, but I searched as much as possible… and most results talk about gaming speeds and pushing to 4.8–5GHz, which I think could stress the CPU before its expected life.)

everyone has unique variations, so you need to investigate on your own if you prioritize consistency, avoid pushing too hard

It varies by chip and depends on the voltage levels involved. Each component has its own limits, so a trial-and-error approach works best. You might find some success by following general overclocking advice, but results will differ. The board itself isn't ideal for this kind of testing. When activating XMP, you're utilizing one of the SPD profiles stored in memory that features specific frequency, timing, and voltage settings.
