Is it possible to run an i5 8600k at higher speeds with a darkrock 4?
I get it, but I already bought an i5 8600k and don't want to change anything yet. Do you have a good cooling fan suggestion that works well for my job?
If you aren't messing with the speed of memory sticks like they're designed for (DR4), then your current setup is fine.
It all depends on what software you're using and your other parts. If you use Sony Vegas Pro, most people find that an AMD graphics card gives much better results than an NVIDIA one or even the processor itself. The same thing happens with NVENC; a strong NVIDIA card works way better than the CPU. So maybe an i5 isn't too big of a problem if you're doing GPU rendering. An i7 won't hurt anything either way, and if you have to use the CPU instead, it will help even more. But in the end, it's up to you to decide. Check something like CoreTemp running in the background. It keeps track of your temperatures all the time. If that i5 with a DR4 heats up really high while doing work, then an i7 might become a problem. On the other hand, if the temps are okay for the load and there is still room on the fan curve to get cooler, the i7 probably won't be a big issue either way. We can't say more than that without seeing your specific setup, how much computer power you have, or what it's really good at doing. Maybe adding just one extra fan drops the temps by ten degrees? That means it's mostly about you figuring things out yourself and comparing options rather than us giving a straight answer.
