Hi, I have a Lenovo ih61m motherboard and am considering swapping my i3-3240 for an i7-3770. I already own a Gigabyte R9 380 4GB RAM, which I know is a bit slow for my CPU, so I’m curious if it’s possible to overclock the motherboard itself. Can I do this using BIOS or through software like MSI Afterburner? Additionally, I’m running 16GB (two 8GB) DDR3 1333MHz RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, and a 1TB SSD.

These chipsets are secured. You might be able to modify the BCLK settings, but it will affect the whole system, not just the CPU.

Usually a standard OEM PC motherboard comes with a limited BIOS.

You should check if there are any available options for GPU control within MSI Afterburner or consider other methods to manage it.

So is MSI Afterburner an option for GPU overclocking or am I stuck?

MSI afterburner remains functional independently. Adjusting CPU clocks is not possible.

The CPU is my main concern. I have 16 gigabytes of RAM, which is ideal for both gaming and the i7-3770. I just need my GPU to be more powerful so it can complement the CPU better. I don’t want to upgrade to something like a 390X or newer, since now I’m focusing on getting a better CPU and setting up the system. Thanks for your advice. Also, if I remember right, when I overclock my GPU it tends to go to its maximum, and I shouldn’t change the voltage. Please let me know if that’s correct, because I don’t want to make any mistakes.

you still need a k model cpu, consider i7-2600k, i7-2700k or i7-3770k. run ram in dual channel (2x8gb or 4x4gb).
edit: just note your motherboard doesn’t support overclocking, so switch to a non-k model instead.
best non "k" option would be i7-3770.

Yeah, I know I ordered an i7-3770 last week through an online shop and got a cooler. I'm using dual-channel RAM because I have two DIMM slots. Thanks for your response.
