Usually today folks opt for a Multiplier overclock for the CPU.
BUT...
You're still able to overclock, but you'd need to boost the FSB (or BCLK) and the motherboard must support that feature.
Most people avoid it since it's more complicated, though if you're determined you can still manage.
(I wouldn't suggest it. A Z170 chipset is better so you can use the unlocked multiplier method.)
You don't require a Z170 with an updated BIOS or a Z270. A video card is suitable, not the CPU.
On Intel CPUs, just the Z series motherboards support overclocking.
