Hi -
Just can't figure out whats going on with my computer. I bought a brand new, quite high end computer in September/October '21, and while playing games like COD etc. the performance is great; once I play Fortnite its terrible.
I have updated drivers, I have tried all different setups in settings like changing DirectX Mode etc.
It seems to be a CPU issue as while in task manager (or equivalent for monitoring) its at 100%, mostly used by Fortnite.
Setup is:
Intel i9-11900
RTX 3080 Phoenix
Corsair DDR4 2666mhz 32GB ram
1TB Kingston A2000 NVMe M.2 SSD
750W PSU
While I first got the PC performance in all games where great; including Fortnite. Now, its not anymore. FPS drops from 140 to 60-70 in "high stress situations" etc. Mostly very unstable and the game is quite unplayable - which sucks as its the only game I now play with my son.
Thanks for all help, and I came here because I see a lot of the posts I get in my Google searches are from here
Hope you guys can help out figure it out, as it makes no sense to me. But I am also quite the beginner.
Thanks, and if you have any questions - go ahead - I'll answer as swiftly & concisely as possible

Sure, let's go through this step by step.
It seems you're concerned about your system performance while playing a game. You might want to check if other applications are using excessive CPU resources, which could be causing the high usage. Running a full system scan for viruses or malware is a good idea to ensure no background threats are affecting your performance.

Monitoring the temperatures during gameplay is important too—any unusual spikes could indicate a problem. Updating your system drivers, especially the latest Nvidia driver, can improve stability and speed.

Also, it would help to know the exact power supply unit you're using, including its make and model.

PSU: Corsair TX750M
Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix B560-F Gaming WiFi
Recent updates on drivers for most applications – possibly a newer BIOS release, though it hadn’t caused problems before. Earlier this period I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. What impact did that make?
I performed a clean Windows installation – issue remains unchanged.
GPU drivers were fully reinstalled – still no difference.
CPU temperatures hover between 60-70°C (measured near the top of my head; not close to the machine now – Armoury Crate suggested everything was normal).
For other tasks, especially hardware-heavy games, performance is unaffected and everything runs smoothly.
As discussed, it’s not a problem on my end, but I checked for unusual processes before and found nothing noteworthy.
Appreciate any advice!

Open the processes tab to identify the highest usage. You can tap the bar at the top to display apps with high CPU activity, and observe additional details.

It is only Fortnite using any resources to speak of; theres something called "Antimalware service executable" that takes up about 2-2,5%; and then a ton of small processes running - and then you got fortnite claiming whatevers left of % :/

Can you share a picture of it here?
That doesn't seem right. If all your drivers are current, including the chipset and you've tried most fixes, I recommend updating the bios. Don't forget to clear CMOS afterward. It might just be an instability glitch with the bios. Let us know what happens.

I've also updated the BIOS, but I'm not sure if I need to adjust the CMOS manually. Will share a photo next time I play. Thanks for the assistance.
