Is it possible for a 6700k to reach over 4.5ghz?

I don't think it's that big of a deal
You won't hit a CPU bottleneck either
When I run it normally for gaming, my temps stay between 45-47°C (I use the raijintek triton aio)
I set it to eco 4ghz, which uses less than 50-60w under load and keeps around 40cc
I don't feel the need for better CPU performance at any time
😉
The i7 6700k is a solid choice no matter how far it goes
(My motherboard is the asus maximus hero viii)
So today I managed to get my brand new 6700k. I’m using a Gigabyte Z170X gaming 3 bios F5B (the F4 gave me the same results). My setup includes a Kingston Fury 2400mhz 16G 2x8, GTX 970 with 970 G1, an SSD of 650+80 Gold X-Series, and a Samsung 850pro SSD. I’m not sure if I’m unlucky, but to maintain stability at 4.4ghz I need a voltage of 1.265, while for 4.5ghz it’s 1.31. It’s not very stable either. After four hours of Aida64 I received a “failure” message with a red light, though it didn’t crash. The temperatures at 4.5ghz after three hours of load reached a maximum of 67°C. My friends have been running 4.4ghz at 1.2V and 4.5ghz at 1.25V, while one of them is at 4.8ghz with 3.5V and another at 4.8ghz with 1.365V. Both have remained stable for several days. For me, I can’t even reach 4.6ghz at 1.35V—my PC crashes during booting or a few seconds afterward. I’m unsure whether the issue is with the motherboard or the CPU. Could you help? Hi mate, did you turn off your VT-D? That was the internal GPU on the CPU. I’m facing the same problem now that I disabled it, but after turning it back on I’ve finally achieved stability. Currently I’m only at 4.4GHz and dropping to 4.2GHz as the i7 6700k doesn’t require much overclocking for good performance, though it might need more later. My setup is: i7 6700k 4.2GHz @1.30V AUTO in BIOS, GA-Z170X-GAMING 5 F4 rev 1.0, Corsair DDR4 2x8GB=16GB Vengeance LPX @3200MHz @1.35V, GTX 770 OC 4GB x 2 SLI, H100i with four fans, idle temps around 22-26°C at load (58-61°C max), ambient about 27-29°C in Australia (Prime95 26.6). My PSU is a 1000W Master 80+ Silent Pro Gold, and I’m using a CM Storm Stryker cooler case. In your BIOS, navigate to the chipset and ensure the internal graphics are off—should be set to VT-D only. Let me know how it goes, as we have similar configurations and can assist each other.
I also wanted to check if auto-OC worked for me. I have the 6700K, which auto-overclocks smoothly to 4.6 GHZ without issues, but when I try to push it to 4.7 manually, it crashes again. Maybe I lost my chance though—I'm fine with 4.6, as it runs very well at that speed.
