My setup details: i9 14900k Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB @ 6400MHz, ASUS Proart RTX 4080 MSI MEG z690 ACE with fractal design, North Charcoal black, tempered glass 1TB boot drive, 4TB game drive. Both use NVMe drives and a PSU. I installed Windows 11 and spent roughly half an hour configuring the system—setting up the game drive, Steam, browser, etc. After that, I played some games, listened to music, and waited. Everything functioned normally for about 30 minutes with stable temperatures. The motherboard lights stayed on, showing it was receiving power. It worked fine until I tried to turn it on. Only my RAM RGB lit up, and there was this unusual rapid clicking noise from the PSU that I’d never heard before. When the system powered down completely, no pops or smoke were noticed, and everything appeared intact. But when I tried to boot, nothing happened. I recall a previous PSU failure that caused a similar shutdown, but now it seemed resolved after replacing the power supply. I managed to install the new motherboard in the case without any contact issues, so I suspect the problem might be with the PSU rather than the board itself.

I discovered another person experiencing the identical problem and shared it on Reddit. One user noted they had a be quiet power supply die that remained quiet for a year.

Wow, that PC really added up! If it works, it’s worth it, but I wonder if you double-checked the parts beforehand.

It appears the overcurrent protection is activating. Given your past issues, the problem might lie with the electrical panel in your setup. Unplugging the power cord from the PSU for about 30 minutes can help reset it, depending on the unit. If the issue persists, it could be a manufacturing defect—typically it fails shortly after use. I recommend returning it for an RMA and getting a replacement. Since you’re budget-conscious, you might have bought a 2000W UPS to safeguard your gear, which would also support monitors and the rig.

I didn't laugh, but I think I should have. It seems I might lack enough power for everything. I was setting up multiple devices at once and streaming on YouTube, which could have caused the issue or blown a fuse. Maybe I need a 2000W power supply.

Hi, your surge protector outlet strip seems to have stopped powering everything, not just your PC. You noticed lights on your RAM and motherboard, flickering LAN lights, but nothing else until you tried turning it on—then your RAM lit up and there was a clicking noise from the PSU. Based on that, it looks like the power supply unit might have failed.

The power source failed. A replacement resolved the problem. All functions are now operating correctly without any shutdowns.
