I reside in a compact apartment where my room is quite limited, yet I rely heavily on my computer. A large desktop PC consumes considerable space. I'm considering switching to a laptop or mini PC. I'd like a laptop since it's portable, but I worry about the damage if it stays powered on continuously for 24 hours a day. I plan to remove the battery first.

Removing the battery is a good move, as that would be the primary concern.
Assuming you keep thermals in check, there is no real issue keeping the laptop on other than normal system wear (fans, drives, etc).

How to manage thermal buildup? I've got stands that elevate the laptop slightly to improve cooling, but is that sufficient? Are there additional steps I should consider?

A stand provides a solid foundation.
At the moment, no further actions are required—just monitor the temperatures using the provided software (like HWmonitor).
If the temperatures rise, consider using cooling pads or fans to assist.

Reducing wear on components is possible by placing the laptop to sleep during the night if you prefer not to shut it down. Restarting it in the morning will take only a short time.

If you're removing the battery, don't worry.
My house systems are ON 24/7. For years.
Including the times when I used a laptop as my main system.
