I was reflecting after a moderator mentioned I couldn't discuss the installation process for OSX on non-Apple hardware in my hackintosh article. It made me question what aspects might be considered illegal. For instance, OSX is available for free from the app store and needs a genuine Mac, so does any unauthorized use counts? Secondly, TMx86 suggests his tools might offer some protection against legal problems. Lastly, does Apple's EULA explicitly state that installing OSX on your own hardware violates the law, or is it more about losing updates and support? Overall, it feels like a murky zone, definitely leaning toward "do whatever you want with the hardware you bought yourself." Anyone have some insight here?

Certainly. The option remains available for download, though a more detailed inspection reveals restrictions for non-Mac systems. They prioritize Apple devices and seem reluctant to discuss hackintosh in certain formats due to privacy and legal concerns.

It seems like you're trying to explain a tricky situation. Generally, it's not illegal to build a Hackintosh, though it might violate Apple's terms of service. While Apple could take action, the government is unlikely to intervene.

I finally managed to go through the terms and conditions, didn’t realize Apple still technically owns the OS even when it’s on your MacBook—that’s really funny.

It’s possible you could have reviewed the document independently, and it’s offered in various languages beyond English.

the key point is that it could take around 50 pages to cover it thoroughly

It's similar with platforms like Steam and Origin. You don't truly own the games; instead, you're using them temporarily. They can cancel access at any moment.
