I believe none of the Far Cry titles are linked beyond their shared name, similar to how the Final Fantasy series operates. Unless a game is described as part of a continuation or connected in any way, it wouldn't be considered a sequel but rather an unrelated entry. It's possible that Far Cry 3 and 4 might be unfolding simultaneously.
