Is CPU slowing down when you use this laptop model?
I bought an Asus TUF F15 laptop about three or four weeks ago, and now I have trouble doing normal things when it runs on the battery. It seems like the power limit is too low at 10W with a multiplier of 10X. When you use the battery (the charger plugged in but not using the 45W connection), the CPU frequency drops to around 500-600 MHz. This makes it very hard even for simple tasks. I noticed that sometimes this limit turned on its own, and suddenly the CPU speed jumped to 2000-3000 MHz after a restart. But then it goes back down. I'm not sure why that happens or how to fix it. Thanks so much!
CPU: 11th Gen Intel® Core i5-11400H OS: Windows 11
Which power plan is currently chosen? What are the minimum and maximum processor limits for both battery use and being plugged into a charger? Also check if the cooling policy is set to active on each setting. If it's not, change it now so that the system doesn't just slow down to stay cool like when plugged in, but instead lets the fans spin at full speed as needed. This might make your battery last longer by preventing unnecessary throttling and keeping cooling up to date without draining power too quickly.
It uses a high-performance plan that works for both of them. There is no cooling limit, it only checks two things: the CPU state and temperature. In my opinion, this might be a BIOS issue rather than a normal setting.
Well, that's very much possible, but you see, we have specific processes we use and your issue is one that is often related to that. Something is definitely wrong though if you have no options for cooling policy, and that is a Windows problem, not a BIOS problem, because you have a laptop. I've have never, not ONCE, seen any laptop that had the correct chipset drivers installed that did not have an option for running a passive OR active cooling policy. And that well might be your problem. I'm guessing you bought this used? And that you have NOT done a CLEAN install of Windows SINCE purchasing it?
It actually started fresh, so I managed to fix it on my own. Turns out the issue was with how the driver handled power and the CPU. Appreciate you helping me solve this!
