Is connecting 24 PSU to a 16-pin motherboard safe to solder?
Is connecting 24 PSU to a 16-pin motherboard safe to solder?
I shared this with the PSU group as well, just in case it's okay to post here. TL;DR at the bottom. I'm assisting a friend with upgrading his PC and we hit a problem with the PSU to motherboard cable. The old PSU is around 230W, which isn't enough for a 1050Ti that draws 75W via PCIe. I've seen people combine the 16-pin cable with a 24-pin one to make it work. Will this affect running the GPU through the graphics card? There are many adapters available, but it seems similar. Another choice is using PCI cables instead. Since we might need to buy a new motherboard, it's becoming harder to find and it's a budget build if we can. Any advice?
