I'm preparing a PC for Christmas and have everything in my cart except the operating system. I have a big question: is it worth spending $80+ on an OS nowadays? There are plenty of free tutorials online, so do they actually work? Even if they do, is it still worth getting it illegally? Could Microsoft block my HDD because I have an illegal Windows copy? Will I be able to upgrade to a new OS when Windows 11 releases? And how did you get your OS? Please share all the details you need.

You're using it, please pay. If you prefer not to, run it without activation—it has a watermark and the desktop appearance can't be changed—but it functions fine. For cracked versions, it works without issues.

No, taking something is generally more advantageous. This is meant to be humorous, not an endorsement of piracy.

1. There is nothing like a free version of Windows.
2. There isn’t any version called Windows 11. Microsoft has made it clear they won’t release another Windows and will focus on major updates for Windows 10.
3. Look on Reddit for affordable Windows keys.

You might save money on Windows, though the situation isn't clear-cut. If Microsoft detects something unusual, they could cancel the installation and issue a key revocation.

Windows 11 isn’t available yet. You can find genuine Windows options at lower prices on G2A, Kinguin, or Reddit communities.

We won't assist with unauthorized or illegal OS versions, as this violates forum policies. Purchasing a license is worthwhile since it offers long-term value beyond typical hardware upgrades. Buying Windows keys from sites like Reddit or G2A makes sense given the affordability, and Microsoft appears focused on continuous updates rather than limiting changes.

Windows isn't getting a full release, just regular updates. 2. I wouldn't support doing that at all. Facing potential $3000 in penalties. 3. Just visit Kinguin and purchase it for around twenty dollars.
