It's acceptable to purchase something with Windows S since it's straightforward to revert to standard Windows 10/11. It functions as a mode rather than a distinct operating system version. Exiting means simply adjusting a setting, though not returning to Windows S is possible. I tried this on the last laptop we bought, and it ran fully as normal.

Windows 11 S can be upgraded to Win 11 Home at no cost.
That's how my MS Surface 3 Go arrived.
Just tap inside the MS Store.

It's good to hear. You remember the somewhat critical comments about it, right?

I believe it was always straightforward. Now it is.

Please note that Windows 11 S has BitLocker activated. Moving to Windows 11 Home still includes the BL feature. Although BitLocker isn't typically offered in Home, it's present and doesn't significantly impact performance.

i haven't used any preloaded spyware before, and i haven't experienced any strange problems. the windows full version has been available for a few years now. the problem with the older version is that any laptop with 32gb of storage can't be upgraded to the 64gb version; only devices with more space can do that.

Yes, there was a lot of negative feedback about S mode.
However, it seemed more like... "Windows 10/11 S Mode is terrible. You can switch it, but check out my blog to see just how bad it is!!!"

Which anti-virus software are you employing? The native Windows Defender usually works well enough. Additional antivirus programs might consume significant system resources. Consider removing the ones you have installed and switching to Windows Defender to assess any improvements in performance.

Well, if you wish, as I mentioned, you might consider utilizing Microsoft's native security features rather than AVG and check if it enhances performance.

Initially, the information focused on the ability to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for a temporary fee ranging from $49 to $99. I've also noticed references to a site (HP) discussing costs for upgrading to Windows 11 Home or 10 Pro. It's unclear whether this process was always free, whether it was initially restricted, or if payment was required at some point.
