Hey everyone, I have a really bad time with my RTX 3070 laptop lately. It used to run games like CS:GO at over 300 FPS, but now it is around 70. I tried reinstalling drivers and using DDU even in safe mode, but nothing helped. Even when the computer is just sitting there, it uses crazy amounts of power.

Here are my laptop details: It's an MSI GP66 Leopard with a 15.6-inch screen that supports 144Hz. I have an Intel i7-11800H processor, 32GB of RAM, a fast 512GB SSD, and an RTX 3070 graphics card. My drivers are all the latest, my BIOS is updated, and even my VBIOS on the firmware is current. I bought this laptop back in April. The thermal paste and fans are working fine too, so the heat isn't causing problems. Is this normal? Any suggestions would be super helpful since a huge drop in performance is happening here?

Hey there, can I get the specific model of your laptop? Are all the drivers and chipsets current? Is the BIOS updated too? Do you get drivers straight from the maker? How is your power plan set up?

Hi, if you want the exact model, go on the manufacturer's website first. Download the BIOS update, restart your computer, then download the Intel driver. If you see UHD graphics in the picture, install that and restart. After that, install the Nvidia driver. Check the version number. If it looks old, visit the Nvidia site to get a new one, restart again, and test. You can also make sure all drivers are up to date. Finally, check that the fans are clean and the thermal paste is good.

Here are some details about my laptop: It's an MSI GP66 Leopard 11UG with a big screen that shows high refresh rates. Inside, I have an Intel processor with eight cores and plenty of memory. I also have fast storage and a powerful graphics card. All the software is up to date. I changed out display drivers and graphics drivers several times using "DDU" because I wanted a clean setup. My BIOS has been updated too, and the VBIOS (which controls power delivery) matches my current firmware version. This laptop was bought in April, so there shouldn't be any issues with heat paste since it's already installed. The fans seem to work fine, and the temperatures are not bad either. Thanks for your help!

Hi, in this case you might want to try other windows versions to see what happens. Since everything seems okay right now, you could run a memory test (like MemTest) and an HDD check (like HD Sentinel). Then, try playing another game and compare the results to make sure they're consistent.

Hi Daniel. I tried out different games and benchmarks. The results clearly show a performance that doesn't match what's expected from my GPU. For reference, here is the fresh UserBenchmark I just did: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63602307

Hi , from results I see the video card uses direct x 9 or 10 and is not normal because your video card suport direct x12 , in this case could be a setting or something happened because video card won't work like it is supposed to do. Here is a link that shows how to enable and check for direct x 12 to be enabled , try this and make another test and see if the video card work correctly, seems to be an issue regarding direct x . Thanks Daniel. But in my other tests, Dx12 works fine. It's just that UserBenchmark hasn't tested Dx11 or Dx12 yet (see this link).
