Is a chair considered a peripheral?
Is a chair considered a peripheral?
I am examining the Herman Miller chairs, particularly the Aeron size B. I am tall and a bit larger now, and according to the size chart, I fall between B and C, with a recommendation to use B in that situation.
I am observing a significant variation in pricing for this chair across different sources, from the official website to places like 'the jungle' or local office furniture stores. Besides worries about possibly receiving a counterfeit product (I checked the label and methods), these items are not cheap. JayZ claims it might be the best chair he has ever made.
I would appreciate some opinions from people who may not have financial incentives to share their honest views. Any thoughts?
Numerous items appear identical, particularly in online advertisements....but the underlying framework might vary entirely.
There is a Herman Miller showroom in Atlanta. I considered visiting but checked the pricing there. The price gap between the base chair and the jungle site is quite notable. Besides that, I’m curious to hear some opinions from other owners about the investment. A few years ago, I chose a chair that stayed above the budget line, even though its build quality was questionable. The manufacturer offered a lifetime warranty on the leather, but that’s their error—this is the second unit not covered. Both units collapsed at the base plate in a similar manner. I also see many (Miller) parts available, such as the headrest and seat, which can be bought separately.
if you're interested in another option, I recently purchased a 'Hercules 24/7' from Flash Furniture. It's been my top choice for an office chair over the past four years. The price was around $250 when I bought it. The padding is excellent and very comfortable, with a cloth cover instead of leather or pleather. It's tall and wide enough for my 6.2" frame weighing 200 lbs, and features swivel, tilt, lift, and adjustable armrests. I no longer use my recliner while watching TV because this chair is significantly more comfortable. It doesn't look very stylish, but it performs well.
I appreciate the advice. I've tried different versions of similar designs before, and the chair I have now is quite comparable. It's a Serta branded chair, originally around $300. It felt great at first, but once the base plate problem began, I quickly realized how much I've gotten used to sitting unevenly. The other concern is switching to a mesh option. These chairs tend to get very hot in my current warm home office, especially during the summer. I'm not planning to install an in-room air conditioner just yet, but considering a mesh option for the upcoming winter might be wise when summer returns. Otherwise, I could simply upgrade my 11900K and it would handle the heat fine.
I acquired a chair named Steelcase. It functions well, though there is no visible mark or sign indicating it was ever used. The pneumatics remain firm, the leather seat cushion is solid, and the back features a mesh surface with an adjustment for back stiffness. The armrests are fully adjustable, allowing movement in multiple directions. The only issue I have is with the armrests, which seem to move too freely. I haven’t discovered a mechanism to lock the float as it were.
The positioning is accurate. The height and compact armrests help me align more comfortably with my desk, offering a better ergonomic setup. I’m hoping this could ease some discomfort in my arms and wrists that I’ve experienced over time.
Anyway, the Herman Miller chairs look appealing. Perhaps we’ll consider them later, but I couldn’t afford the price for the features I needed at that time.
Thanks above for the help and advice.
