Is a brand new custom-built PC unable to boot or post following the initial shutdown, necessitating a hard power cycle?
📝 Problem Description
Hello everyone,
I recently installed a new gaming PC about three days ago. From the very first startup, I’ve faced a consistent and bothersome issue with the boot process.
The situation is this:
- First Boot: The PC powers on normally, runs Windows as expected. Fans spin up, GPU fan activates, and all peripherals stay unlit.
- No display or keyboard signals – monitor doesn’t show POST, and mouse/keyboard won’t turn on.
- Hard Power Cycle: To get it running again, I must disconnect the power cable for a few seconds, then reconnect and power it on. It restarts normally, but this has to be repeated each time I shut it down.
It appears the system is entering a non-responsive state that demands a complete power cut before it can boot.
I’ve already tried:
- Checking RAM (cleaned slot, tested both DIMMs)
- Verifying BIOS/UEFI settings
- Disabling EXPO/XMP mode
- Updating BIOS (required a reset with screen off/on)
- Using a DisplayPort cable
- Testing power stability
I’m unsure whether the issue lies with the PSU, motherboard, or RAM timing. What should I do next to identify and resolve this?
Thank you for your assistance!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
The PSU bundled with your case looks very unreliable;

include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
Which slot is the single stick of ram populating on the motherboard? On that note, you've left performance on the table by going with a single stick of ram as opposed to a dual channel ram kit. AM5 platforms prefer 2 sticks of ram, DDR5-6000MHz or DDR5-6000MT/s.
Hello,
The PSU is brand new and has just been turned on for the first time. The motherboard BIOS is set to version F2, released on May 28, 2025. The RAM is placed in slot A2 — the one furthest from the CPU socket.
I've asked for more info, i.e, your full systems specs. I would see if you can contact the seller and return the PSU, to later pick up a reliably built 650W~750W unit.
As for your BIOS, make sure you're on the latest chipset driver for your platform, first. Then flash the BIOS to BIOS version F4g, which at the time of writing is the latest version;

I suspect you to have a grounding issue in your abode. DO you feel a mild tingling sensation when you touch the metal part of your case while your bare feet are making contact with a tiled(non-wooden, non-carpeted) floor?
