I’m considering using an older Corsair ax1200i for my upcoming build. The PC will have a 9950x3d and a 3060ti right now, but I plan to upgrade to a 5000 series card in the next six months if Nvidia releases something new. The PSU has seen low to moderate use, likely powering some overclocking attempts. Thoughts? Is it worth it to use a decade-old PSU at this stage?

I've been using this setup for a while now—overclocked 3930k with two 780s. Still, I haven't used it in months.
Electrolytic components gradually weaken even in premium PSUs, particularly when capacitors operate under heat and high ripple currents. Electrolytics are usually specified for 1,000 to 5,000 hours at temperatures up to +85°C or +105°C. For every 10°C decrease below the maximum temperature, lifespan doubles. Thus, a capacitor rated at 2,000 hours at +85°C would last approximately 4,000 hours at +75°C, 8,000 hours at +65°C, and so forth. Reaching 16,000 hours equates to about 667 full days, far exceeding typical continuous operation periods (24/7/365). Clearly, capacitors rated for +105°C—commonly found in high-quality PSUs—should offer significantly longer service life. Power electrolytics tend to warm up noticeably due to self-heating, and it’s possible some may reach +60°C during stress conditions. If a manufacturer offers a 10-year warranty, it’s time to replace the unit. Determining its remaining lifespan remains uncertain without further testing.
