Is Core i5 8600k hotter than 8700k especially under prime workloads and Cinebench? I heard it can overclock above 8700k on some gaming tests. How is that even achievable?

I've experienced both CPUs recently when selling my 8600k for the 8700K. In terms of overclocking, there was minimal difference since both reached 5GHz. The 8700K required slightly more vcore for 5GHz, but both stabilized at 4.9GHz (my preferred setting for continuous use) without any problems. Temperatures stayed within normal ranges despite running a fairly heavy 360 AIO. Regarding performance and higher overclocks, it seems less stress is involved because fewer threads are active, reducing heat generation. I'm sure others here will have a more detailed response.

Taking into account that the 8600K doesn't have additional threads it might slightly overclock but when it comes to overclocking, the lottery is crucial. It's possible to have ten 8600K or ten 8700K units and run them on the same motherboard and cooler to achieve varying outcomes (speed, temperatures, voltages). Both with a solid motherboard and cooling should reach at least 4.9ghz.
