At the start of the year I upgraded my PC. But after doing that, irql kept failing and ntoskrnl.exe would crash with BSOD. The system freezes completely without any errors, happening at random times while idle on the desktop. I ran memtest in Windows but it didn’t show any problems. My setup is Windows 11 retail, i7 10700kf S/H, Asus H470-i gaming board S/H, 2x16GB DDR4 RAM, CMK32GX4M2E32000C16, new Gigabyte RXT3070 S/H. It’s a media/gaming PC in my living room, so I’ve taken some components off the market. The board had an i3 but I don’t have one to test since I bought it for the i7.

Because memtest didn’t report issues, I’d update the BIOS on the H470-I. Test running RAM with XMP disabled using the standard JEDEC settings to check stability. Install all chipset, LAN, and ME drivers directly from ASUS, not just via Windows Update. Monitor temperatures and power supply, especially with second-hand components. If problems persist, perform stress tests on CPU and GPU separately using OCCT or Prime95. This will help identify whether the problem lies in memory, IMC, or power delivery.

Navigate to Event Manager via Start and check for notifications. Click Right-click... then select Terminal (Admin) to execute DISM and sfc commands: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth && DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth sfc /scannow. Run Windows in Safe Mode by holding Shift during Restart. Still experiencing BSOD?

Ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel. If you encounter this in a tool, it's likely a faulty tool or you're in the wrong location about 99.9% of the time. Bluescreenview and Whocrashed don't work well. Check C:\Windows\Minidump for any minidump files. If present, return to Windows and move the Minidump folder to your Downloads folder (or use your desktop if OneDrive isn't syncing). Compress the folder and post it.

Thanks for the update. I've been really swamped lately, and when I came home last night I attempted to use the mini dump but the system froze. I plan to try again tonight and share the result. I'm considering keeping Windows 7 installed and testing it to see if the problems persist after applying these fixes.

My recent two dumps are ready. The system was acting up this morning, so you can install the drivers from ASUS 091625-10437-01.dmp and 091325-9578-01.dmp.

I've executed all these commands and there were no problems. The system is operating smoothly at the moment.

Ram. Incompatibility. Buy new ram, make sure it's on QVL. (Don't buy the same ram again even if it is on the QVL) Ok, it's fixed, hallelujah! (well if it does come back, see above ^^)

I might have misphrased it. Everything seemed to work well; the commands didn’t cause any problems and resolved them. I completed a full CPU stress test throughout the day without any issues. Right now, I’m running memory tests at night and will check the results later.
