Hi everyone! I've been experiencing 900mbps downloads but zero upload speeds for quite some time. I thought it would be a good idea to investigate what was causing the issue. After trying various solutions, I discovered that turning off IPV6 restored my upload speed to around 800mbps. My main concern is whether disabling IPV6 is safe for my computer. I'm still new to tech, so I wasn't expecting much change. Interestingly, the upload drop didn't affect my gaming or work calls much—just a few random sites stopped working. Would it be worth disabling IPV6 to see if the speed improves and test a few websites? More details: Last year I faced a similar problem with my computer, except for Google products (Google, Gmail, YouTube) which became completely unusable. After checking forums, it seemed linked to an Intel chip in my router. Eventually, I resolved it by disabling "UDP Checksum Offload (IPv6)." Since then, I haven't had the issue again. Now I'm curious—what could be causing the IPv6 problem with my setup? I use version 10, have a wired connection, and an ASUS ROG Strix B550-F motherboard. Any advice would be appreciated! Hi, I noticed the same problem with YouTube too. After upgrading my PC—CPU, motherboard, etc.—the site ran much slower. I can confirm this by checking YouTube stats for nerds. When I turned off IPV6 in my adapter settings, the performance improved significantly. I know disabling IPV6 is usually a temporary fix. Anyone else experiencing this? Also, other devices on my network have IPV6 enabled and seem to work fine on YouTube.

It seems feasible that features like fe80 might indicate local addresses, but I’d rather avoid unnecessary complexity. Additionally, IPv6 can be used to circumvent local network filters and firewalls. For example, many modems support both IPv4 and IPv6 DNS servers, so if your IPv4 address fails, connections continue regardless, even for content you intended to block. I only enable IPv4 in the NIC settings on Windows and haven’t encountered problems with that.
