Hey everyone, I just switched to a new internet service last month. My computer and apps haven’t changed except for the updated modem/router from the new provider. I keep getting disconnections while playing games, but everything else—like Twitch, Discord, and downloading—is working fine. I’ve tried clearing DNS, refreshing my clients, and fixing the games, but nothing’s resolved. Could it be something with the ports? Thanks for any help!

I can look into your NAT type. If it's strict, that might explain the issue; otherwise, it could point to something different.

It seems you're questioning whether you're using two separate routers. Are you sharing your own device with the ISP's equipment?

I don't know the exact steps, but I did it in my previous apartment. That's because the old ISP modem was just a regular modem, without a router or Wi-Fi. Now my current ISP has a Wi-Fi router, and I'm using it now.

You’ll likely need to check your ISP’s web settings and adjust them carefully. A simple test is placing your device in the DMZ zone, but only for testing purposes. If the issue remains, the problem may lie with your router’s firewall. Consider turning on UPNP if you’re comfortable with it, though it’s not recommended for security. For gaming convenience, enabling it can be a practical choice. If you lack the skills to handle advanced configurations, you might want to explore what your ISP router interface offers. It sounds like you’re using fiber internet—probably converting ONT to Ethernet and then connecting to the main router. If your ISP doesn’t require VLAN or PPoE setup, you could skip the router and use your existing equipment.

The old connection was using cables, now it's switching to fiber. I'm not sure what "DMZ" and "UPNP" mean, so I'm not an expert. I can't use my previous ISP router anymore because I had to return it, and the new fiber setup has a different cable and plug.
