Internet speed limited to 15mbps
Recently received an upgrade from 12 down and 1 up to now 30 down and 2 up. On Wi-Fi and Ethernet, my dad's PC achieves full speed, but on mine it caps at 15 down and 2 up. I've tested different Ethernet cables (Cat5e and Cat6) without improving performance, and using the same cable on my dad's system still shows 30 down 2 up. No software restrictions or downloads are affecting bandwidth. I haven't tried a restart yet, though it might help. Could this be a motherboard issue? Specs: AT&T 5268AC router MSI MPG x570 Gaming Plus.
Did you use the identical port on the router and the other device, or just the cables?
I've checked almost every port using each cable, and they all responded consistently. It's not related to a reply—I've discovered something now. I decided to run one final speed test before restarting, and both Google and Ookla showed me 15 down 2 up. That's odd. Plus, it worked on my dad's PC too, with both services giving similar results.
I attempted AT&T, Ookla, and Fast, all giving similar results while Google remained inaccurate. I expected Google to be precise before, but now I suspect it misinterpreted my internet speed—possibly unrelated to a real issue. I should have checked several sources first; I forgot about Ookla and didn’t know fast.com until recently. Appreciate the assistance. It’s still unclear how to proceed. I tried downloading an MP4 file from Google, which matched the chart visually. As mentioned earlier, I believe this situation is resolved. Thanks for your help.
