Internet speed issues with gigabit connection
Yep, when you talked about other devices on wired, it suggests the router or modem is likely the issue. You might want to check the router settings for any accidental QoS restrictions or speed limits. Try restarting the modem directly connected to your laptop to see if that helps. In the US with certain cable ISPs, you usually need to reboot the modem when switching routers and it can cause delays. Some providers like Charter only assign IP addresses after a reboot. If none of this works, contact your ISP to confirm there’s no rollout delay or other problem. People sometimes wait days before getting full speed, which can be confusing.
Unknown model number, but the device manager lists the Killer E2500 GIGABIT Ethernet Controller.
Yeah... I restarted the system using my laptop connected directly, but it didn’t improve much. After retesting, it actually dropped to 500. I’m starting to believe they speed things up when the technician arrives and then reset it afterward.
It would be questionable of them, and I think they wouldn’t bother with that effort, but the technology might have been just as careless or dishonest and left the work incomplete. Did you witness him conducting a speed test, or was he simply stating what he received without showing the results?
