Internet connection remains slow even after connecting to a VPN.
Hello, friends. My Wi-Fi performance has been affected lately. While abroad I used a VPN service (Proton VPN with a paid subscription). Upon returning home, my internet speed dropped significantly—roughly 200mbps versus the usual rate. Speed tests on both my Apple and Android devices showed around 50 Mbps. I also checked the laptop’s Wi-Fi, which started to activate very slowly, taking about a minute to connect. The adapter is an Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. I updated the drivers but didn’t notice any improvement. Could you help me figure out the cause? Thanks in advance.
Is it still active while the VPN is running? Have you tried without it? Also, how do speeds compare over Ethernet?
The performance is similar after removing the VPN software and I'm not currently using it. 2. I haven't attempted Ethernet connections because the router is on another floor and I don't have access to a cable.
It's a combined group that changes its settings based on the distance from the laptop to the router, using either 5 or 2.4 GHz. I'm not sure if those images match what you're looking for. I reached out to Intel and they reinstalled everything and verified the operating system, but they suspect an issue with Windows restricting internet speed. I also spoke to Microsoft, who couldn't locate anything.
