Hello everyone! I'm reaching out for some insight since this seems unusual. We're assisting a friend with assembling a PC and encountered a problem: the system boots into BIOS but doesn't recognize any keyboard or mouse. We suspect the i7 10700 is the root cause. Our experience includes purchasing it on eBay, and the integrated graphics aren't functioning properly (they display images when connected). We've tried the CPU on two motherboards—MSI MAG B560M with different RAM kits and power supplies—but consistently reached BIOS without any input. Since it's a new build, no Windows has been installed yet. Additionally, we can't boot from a USB drive or update the BIOS without proper keyboard interaction. Have anyone had a similar situation? It's surprising that a CPU could be in working condition yet fail to detect inputs. Please share your thoughts! Thanks ahead!
I have the issue with keyboards, on my old k95 rgbs I like to use, it has a switch for different polling rates, which is done for switching purposes since no one needs 1ms input on keys... (optical switches in keybaords instead of mice lmao) it has a bios mode to solve this issue, but on a very old motherboard for a by I was making for a friend with a small budget during th epeak of shortages (fx era) it wouldnt input the key to enter the bios except for a very short window while switchign between "devices" moving around the slidr and spamming the key
I've experienced faulty USB controllers before on my motherboard, but swapping it out likely fixed the problem. If you have a case with front USB ports, you might test using one of the internal motherboard headers—sometimes this changes which controller is used. It's quite odd you're facing this issue with a bad CPU, especially since your onboard video isn't working. It could point to a CPU fault. You might want to try a PCI USB card to see if the ports function properly. Also, consider resetting the BIOS to its original settings; it might have been disabled all USB ports. You could also update the motherboard BIOS to the latest version.
We also tested front-panel USB connections, but the outcomes remained consistent. No PCI cards available for evaluation, and we performed a CMOS reset on the initial board without any variation. Sadly, updating the BIOS isn't possible without directly accessing the BIOS settings.
A friend recently purchased a brand new 11600KF, and everything is functioning perfectly. This confirms that the previous 10700 unit was defective. Lesson learned: a CPU can fail in many ways, such as enabling BIOS boot while blocking keyboard and mouse input. What an interesting experience!
