Hey, I'm using a Ryzen 3600 with a Noctua NH-U12S setup, which has dual 120mm fans. It's paired with five NF-P14s—one from the back of the case, two from the front, one top of the case, and another top of the case. I also have an RTX 2060 XC Black. Right now, I'm playing F@H and keeping my CPU temps around 80-85°C, while my GPU stays between 70-72°C. I've fine-tuned both with manufacturer AI tools—Asus Ai tuning on my x570 motherboard and EVGA Precision in Windows for the GPU.
A friend said these numbers are pretty high, especially during gameplay. With an overclock and a room temperature of about 23-29°C (cooler temps let me push lower), it still feels reasonable. They mentioned gaming would bring CPU temps down to the low 70s, and GPU temps to mid-70s to low 80s. Now my GPU is steady at around 33°C, cycling smoothly between 55°C and 45°C, which is pretty consistent. The fans seem to be managing themselves well.
They also warned not to exceed 70-75°C on the CPU during games, which seems a bit extreme given the current setup. I’m not sure if I’m being too cautious or just different from them. My PC looks fine under these conditions, especially since it can run modern games like Doom Eternal at full resolution.
If I could change the room temperature, I’d consider pushing the overclock a bit more. But right now, everything seems balanced. As for where to post this—CPU, GPU, or Air Cooling threads? Let me know if you think it fits better somewhere else!
Also, just to clarify, my system is an older AMD build but still handles games like Doom 3 at 1080p non-stop. So yeah, it’s working for now.
Overclocking carries risks, but maintaining stable temperatures helps preserve performance. For extended hardware longevity, avoid pushing it too high—opt for a lower setting instead.
If the AI overclock performs well on my ASUS board, it seems like it prefers higher voltages, so running at 80-85°C during stress tests isn't too risky. It's not dangerous enough to cause harm. As temperatures rise above 90-95°C, you might need to reduce the overclock or enhance cooling. Also, does your case have a fan mount at the bottom? An intake at the bottom would be better than one on top next to an exhaust, since it could cause air turbulence.
The VGA reading is near 1.1°C on Core Temp, and CPU-Z displays Core Voltage between 1.3 and 1.4V when idle. It’s unclear if these values match your setup, but that’s what I assumed. Modern processors and GPUs generally resist lasting harm unless overheated for extended periods. Running F@S only at night makes sense since power costs are lower. Temperatures aren’t ideal, especially with a larger cooler in mind, but the CPU and GPU could still degrade over time, possibly leading to an HTPC build later. I’m okay with this configuration now, though I hope for a Ryzen 9 setup eventually. Unfortunately, the Phanteks Pro M PH-ES515PTG_BK lacks bottom fan mounts except for a PSU vent. That’s why I placed one fan at the front to draw air in and another at the back to expel it. I’m open to suggestions, but this seems like the best arrangement for my case—though fewer fans might reduce turbulence.
