Interested in the future performance of the R5 3600 for gaming?
It's unclear how long the Ryzen 5 3600 will last for good gaming. I'm worried about newer consoles pushing performance limits. I usually run at 1440p with 60fps and tolerate lower graphics settings. My PC setup uses a B550 motherboard, and I think the 3600 will still be solid for a few years. I just want to confirm my processor choice won't limit me and wonder if upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 later makes sense.
In reality, my screen supports 144Hz at 1440p, but I’m not a high-level gamer, so I set it to 60Hz because the GPU is the main bottleneck and it lacks adaptive refresh rate.
Modern quad processors are no longer sufficient, though they can still be utilized. Six-core CPUs are already under strain and have faced similar problems a few years back, so they’re likely to be phased out soon. The 4C/8T and higher models will hold up for a while but will eventually be replaced by something like the i7-9700. Once that happens, performance will drop significantly until we see a 12-threaded Ryzen model.
