I just assembled a new PC and encountered audio problems during gaming or under heavy usage. System: Ryzen 5 7600, ASRock B650M Pro RS Wifi, Radeon RX7800xt, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 (2x16GB) at 6000mhz, Corsair rm750e PS, running Windows 11. Issue: When playing games, the sound often distorts—starting small but worsening over time. It leads to noticeable pops, crackles, and even drops in frame rate plus Wi-Fi drops. Usually, restarting the PC fixes it for a while. The problem seems tied to new games or specific maps; I’ve noticed it with Starfield, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Motorsport. After several hours of play, it mostly disappears but remains a persistent issue with Forza Motorsport. Troubleshooting steps: Updated and reinstalled every driver, adjusted audio settings in Windows, tested with both wireless and wired headsets and monitor speakers—confirmed it’s not headset-related. Initially used an RX6750X and the same card caused the problem. I reset RAM speed to default 4800mhz but it didn’t help. ASRock suggested replacing the motherboard. Before doing that, could you check if there are any overlooked components or settings I might be missing? I’d prefer not to swap parts unless something simple can be fixed via software.

i don’t know about the fps drop or wifi issues. for my fix, i’ll treat those as different problems. Jays 2 Cents made a video on audio cracking earlier, which was useful. i’m assuming you’re using the headphone/microphone port on the front of your computer; the problem might be that case audio wires aren’t shielded against rf or emi. when the gpu uses a lot of power, it creates interference in the audio cables, causing pops and crackles. fixes involve using the audio ports on the back of your pc/motherboard or switching to the headphone jack on your monitor if available. if that doesn’t work, check for any pinched wires inside your case, especially behind the motherboard.
