That 100C on the CCD is now missing. Great job. You can stick with EXPO or XMP, though many users found that setting the memory to 5200 improved performance significantly. It’s something you might want to experiment with until AMD’s memory support becomes more stable. Still early for DDR5—though it’s showing promise. Jay tried this on a de-lidded AMD board, and I’m not sure if it’s worth the risks.

Am I going mad? I haven’t worked in PC building since I assembled my first rig in 2013. The CPU is running around 50.1 MHz on average, maxing out at 55? According to the hardware monitor? I haven’t overclocked yet, and the R7 7700x starts at 4.5 MHz with a boost of 5.4. Do CPUs just ramp up on their own now? Why is it speeding past the BIOS setting of 4.5 MHz? Could that explain why I was seeing temperatures climb to 95-100°C when I thought it was just at base speed? I’m sorry if this sounds too simple or confusing. I’m not sure how much progress has been made in this field. For context, I almost considered buying two GPUs for SLI, which shows how outdated I feel.

you're still using SLI from the early 3Dfx era... still running on two 2080ti boards in a watercooled setup. new tech auto-boosts based on cooling levels, which is why 13900k units perform well. the more you cool it, the quicker it goes — perfect for those who enjoy custom watercooling. i'm leaning toward waiting, since upgrading feels too expensive right now. i've already modified my cooling loop with three larger radiators and ten fans. i'm not sure if 4090 is compatible, but in the 30 series only 3090s are supported. sli's basically over now.

The purpose of overclocking is unclear when it naturally achieves higher speeds. This phenomenon has a specific term you can look into: it’s often called "oscillation" or "thermal throttling." Researching these names should give you more insight. RIP SLI.

It's quite frustrating, really. All you need is more cooling, which is why some people are revisiting external cooling towers. Check out videos from Der Bauer and Gamers Nexus—they’re testing things like overclocking on newer CPUs. With DDR5 memory, demand is rising quickly, and vendors are starting to support higher speeds. Still, nothing is stable above 6000MHz yet. Maybe in the future they’ll allow up to 7600MHz on mainboards, but their QVL lists don’t show any qualified options. The current push seems to be around RAM speed—overclocking CPUs and adjusting voltage to maintain stability are the main focus now. Newer GPUs also have limited overclocking potential; look at Jays2cent’s content for more insights.
