Intel xtu experiencing undervolt problems after updating BIOS with newest microcode
Consider letting the CPU run at a lower voltage on its own. I turned off undervolt protection before, but after updating my Gigabyte board—whether enabled or not—I saw it still reported as active. Has anyone experienced this problem? I haven’t switched to the Intel performance profile yet and just used the previous Gigabyte model, though I’m worried about potential CPU damage if it behaves unexpectedly.
I'm more worried about altering XTU since it's not clear which adjustments disable the voltage cap in the updated microcode. I'd just turn on the Intel Performance Profile and test it. Those settings are meant to enforce the voltage limit. Sure, custom under-volting can boost performance and cut power use, but you risk missing the voltage cap entirely. The issue occurred at high clock speeds, making it seem stable in software but problematic in reality.
It turns out the intel profile was the one disabling the undervolting feature. Frustrating. It also appears to push the CPU to its power and EDP limits, dropping my Cinibench R24 scores by about 200 points.
