I'm facing problems with my HP Omen laptop that's been with me for over a year. I've been using XTU since purchase and had no issues until now. I tried adjusting the TDP to lower fan speeds during class, but it only set to 61.00W without dropping. After a BIOS update, installation, and reinstallation of XTU, the hardware reported 61.00W as well. In the short term, the TDP should function properly, but it's causing overheating. I'm planning a factory reset to see if that resolves the issue. Please help!

61 W refers to PL2, not TDP. It's part of the chip's turbo algorithm and works as intended. Factory resets won't assist. Adjust power settings via the battery icon on the taskbar. Battery saver will lower it to cTDP, while high performance or normal mode keeps it at 45 W. Comet Lake is generally a powerful chip.

I haven't added this problem yet. My CPU is under full load, running between 75 to 82°C and set at the default TDP. My peak performance is around 107W. This isn't related to the battery configuration either. I'm restarting my laptop now, with everything backed up on a large external storage.

Check the ThrottleStop settings and capture a snapshot of the TPL window. The BIOS might have restricted the power limit register. Intel XTU doesn't always display power limits accurately, particularly after waking from sleep. Your image indicates PL1 at 61W and PL2 at 107W, which is significantly higher than the 45W TDP.

The throttle command provides no effect. It hasn't worked on my laptop, and I'm currently performing a factory reset to check if that would resolve the issue.

Distinguish PL3/4 (transient suppression) from PL2 (short-term power limit). The 28-second tau signals 61 W as PL2.

Examine his screenshot. It displays the power limits configured for PL1 and PL2. If you're not comfortable with HWiNFO, install it.
