Xeon refers to a series of high-performance processors. Are you sure you have the right platform in mind? Do you already own a motherboard?
You might consider the newer E5-2630V2, though it's not the most recent release. If you're looking for the latest performance, check out the latest Intel or AMD CPUs.
For gaming it's best to look at overclockable Xeon models or those with high clock speeds. Most recent Xeons come with low clock speeds and aren't suitable for overclocking. LGA2011 (and older LGA1366) boards work well for gaming, though they can be costly. The Xeon E3 CPU line for LGA1150/1151/1155/1156 is similar to i7 but supports ECC memory and typically runs at lower speeds.
